Starting a Business in Ukraine: A Step-by-Step Legal Process for Foreigners
Opening a company in Ukraine has become more transparent and accessible for international entrepreneurs. The first step is choosing the appropriate legal structure, with the Limited Liability Company (LLC) remaining the preferred option for most foreign investors. After selecting a company name, the founder prepares incorporation documents, appoints a director, and determines the company’s legal address. Foreign documents must usually be legalized or apostilled, translated into Ukrainian, and notarized. Once submitted to the State Registrar, the company is entered into the Unified State Register. The business is then automatically registered with the tax authorities and receives an official registration number. The next step is opening a corporate bank account and, where applicable, registering for VAT. Depending on the business sector, additional licenses or permits may be required. Ukraine continues simplifying administrative procedures through digital public services, making the registration process faster than ever before. These improvements demonstrate the government’s commitment to creating a modern and competitive investment climate.
