Crimea might lose 300 tonnes of fruit crop to March frost (Interfax-Ukraine)
Simferopol – The expected shortage of fruit in Crimea due to March frost will amount to about 300 tonnes, or 0.3 percent of the forecast gross yield of fruits and berries in 2013.
According to the information policy department of the Council of Ministers of Crimea, this figure was taken from data given by the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry, which jointly with the Institute of Agriculture of Crimea determined the extent of damage to the fruit buds of early flowering stone fruit crops due to a cold front that passed over the peninsula on March 23-25.
According to the Agricultural Ministry of Crimea, trimming is being continued in orchards and vineyards in the autonomy, measures are being taken to protect the potential harvest of fruits and grapes.
