European Bank for Reconstruction and Development approved a loan for a new sarcophagus at Chernobyl

EBRD has approved an additional allocation of credit in the amount of 350 million euros to build new confinement at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
EBRD Board of Directors approved additional funding for the project of building safe confinement at the site. The Board of Directors is the principal decision-making body, representing 66 shareholders of the bank. Completion of construction of the sarcophagus is scheduled for late 2017 and the total final cost of the action plan on the «Shelter» is estimated at 2.15 billion euros. At present the Chernobyl Fund «Shelter» which is controlled by the Bank has received more than 1,2 billion EUR from 43 donors.
