The EU will provide Ukraine a loan of 1.8 billion euros. This was agreed by EU finance ministers and did not rule out the possibility of increasing funding in the future.

A number of EU countries, including the UK, offered to provide Ukraine with 2.6 billion euros in medium-term loans in 2015-2016.

As reported in the two macro-financial assistance programs Ukraine has already received 1.36 billion euros of loans, yet 250 million will be allocated in the spring of 2015.

Previously, in early January the European Commission decided to propose to give Kiev further EUR 1.8 billion macro-financial assistance in the form of medium-term credit. It was assumed that the new program should help Ukraine in overcoming such challenges as weak balance of payments and fiscal situation.
