Last year, the EIB has financed projects in Ukraine for EUR 1.2 billion, this is going to pour another 800 million euros.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) intends in 2016 to invest in projects in Ukraine, about 800 million euros, and in the future considering the possibility to increase the annual amount of funding for the country to 1 billion euros, said a senior corporate banker EIB Jean-Jacques Sulakru.
“Last year, we provided loans for 1.2 billion euros this year, I believe, will be approximately EUR 800 million. We work with the European Commission to see whether it is possible to expand the portfolio and exit somewhere in the 1 billion euros per year and maintain this volume”, – he said.
According to him, about 60% of the lending volume falls on the public sector – development of transport infrastructure, energy, energy efficiency projects, municipal projects, environmental projects, and 40% is aimed at lending to small and medium-sized enterprises through local partner banks.
The total portfolio of EIB lending in Ukraine is 4.3 billion euros.
