The EU can provide financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of EUR 600 million by the middle of this year,said during a press conference, Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis.
“We have reached a final agreement on macro-financial assistance to Ukraine which is 1.7 billion euro,” – he said.
According to him, after negotiations with the Ukrainian side, the European Commission is confident that the parties will sign a Memorandum of Understanding in the next month.
“And if all goes according to plan, we will first provide EUR 600 million by the middle of this year,” – he said.
As reported, the Prime – Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, speaking at an international donor conference, urged Western partners to enhance the level of assistance to Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported that the EU completed the formal approval of a new macro-financial assistance program for Ukraine 1.8 billion euro.
It is reported that the European Commission hopes to conclude the negotiations within a few weeks, so that the first tranche of aid of 600 million euros could give Kiev before the summer.
The new aid program proposed by the European Commission on January 8 will be the third program for Ukraine.
Macro-financial assistance will be provided in three tranches: the first two will be paid before the end of 2015 and the third – in early 2016.
