The export of goods from Ukraine in 2017 may increase for the first time since 2012. According to the forecasts of the NBU, the supply of ore will grow most strongly in the structure of exports.
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) forecasts in 2017 the growth of exports of goods from Ukraine – by 11.2% – for the first time since 2012 due to further price increases in commodity markets.
As noted in the NBU inflation report for April, published on the regulator’s website, ore exports (by 41%) will grow most of all in the structure of exports due to the release of additional volumes due to the termination of shipments to metallurgical enterprises located in the occupied territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Also, the export of food products will grow by 8.6% due to the supply of sugar and other food products thanks to new markets for sale among Asian countries that were developed in 2016, as well as to increase grain exports. In addition, export of machine building is expected to increase due to the gradual reorientation of products that were previously exported to Russia.
According to the estimates of the NBU, in 2017 growth in imports of goods is expected to increase by 11%. Including the growth of energy import of goods by 33.5% will be due to the increase in imports of coal and coke due to the termination of its supplies from ORDLO, as well as rising prices for oil products and gas. The main driver of non-energy imports will remain engineering products, primarily due to increased demand from farmers. In addition, the growth of imports of food products is expected as a result of the gradual recovery of consumer demand.
Also, the National Bank predicts a surplus of trade in services due to an increase in export of services by 5.7% thanks to IT and transport services, while the import of services will grow by 4.7%.
The foreign trade balance of Ukraine according to the results of 2016, according to the State Statistics Service, was reduced to a surplus of $ 337.3 million, which is 11 times lower than the surplus for 2015 at 3.828 billion dollars. At the same time, according to the published data of the National Bank of Ukraine, the balance of foreign trade in goods and services following the results of 2016 is reduced to a deficit at the level of 5,581 billion dollars.
