Ministry of Regional Development and the German Society for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur internationale Zusammenbeit (GIZ) GmbH) have signed an agreement on the implementation of the project “Integrated urban development in Ukraine” with a budget of 5.85 million euro.
The corresponding agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services Gennadiy Zubko, Director of GIZ in Ukraine Sabine Mueller and Project Director Matthias Brandt.
“It is important that the experience of the Leipzig Charter was introduced in the Ukrainian cities – Vinnitsa, Zhitomir, Poltava and Chernivtsi,” – said Zubko.
The project “Integrated urban development in Ukraine” jointly funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Swiss Confederation (SECO).
Over the next three years will be to develop an integrated concept for development of Vinnitsa, Zhitomir, Poltava and Chernivtsi. The project budget is 5.85 million euro. Each city is also contributing to the project in kind in the amount of about 200 thousand euro.
In contrast to the existing urban planning in Ukraine, an integrated approach to urban development provides for the active involvement of people at all stages of development of the concept. The main reference point in this paper is the Leipzig Charter on Sustainable European Cities.
One of the important objectives of the project is the adaptation of the existing regulatory framework with the European standards for the optimal performance of the cities of their functions in the context of local government reform.
