Ukraine had a record grain harvest in 2014
According to preliminary data in 2014 Ukraine has collected nearly 63.8 million tons of grain and leguminous crops which is 2.4% more than in 2013 according to State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
According to the statistics service including threshed wheat in the last year increased by 9.9% – to 24.1 million tons, barley – 23%, to 9.04 million tons, while maize – decreased by 7.8 to 28.45 million tons.
Harvested area of cereals and legumes (14,616,000 hectares) last year was 4.6% less than in 2013.
State Statistics Service of Ukraine also reported that the gross harvest of sugar beet increased by 44.2% and amounted to 15.55 million tons, the collection of soybean increased by 44.3% – to nearly 3.9 million tons.
In 2014 Ukraine also harvested 10.1 million tons of sunflower, which is 7.7% less than in the previous year, 2.2 million tons of rapeseed (5.8% less).
The potato crop in the bulk of 23.7 million tons at 8.4% higher than in 2013. Vegetables harvested at 2.6% – 9.64 million tons of fruits and berries – 7.8% less, about 2 million tons.
