Ukraine has completed consultations in the WTO for the introduction of import duties.
Ukraine has completed consultations within the World Trade Organization (WTO) on restrictions on the introduction of a 25 February 2015 a temporary additional import duties to improve the balance of payments, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
“This week the Committee to schedule the final approval of the report, which will reflect the point of view of all members of the WTO. The next step is sending the report to the WTO General Council for adoption at its meeting to be held in late July,” – noted in a release.
Ukrainian ministry said that although the committee report does not provide concrete next steps in the WTO, members of the organization have supported Ukraine’s decision to terminate the measures to stabilize the balance of payments no later than the planned date – the end of December 2015 or as early as possible.
As part of the consultations Ukraine to provide clarification, that the issue of early cancellation of import charges, in particular, may be considered when the international reserves of the country reached the level of 3 months of imports.
As reported, Ukraine 25 February 2015 due to a sharp deterioration in the balance of payments has introduced additional import duty on imports, except for critical, registered in the parliament adopted in late 2014 on the proposal of the Government of the law “On the balance of payments of Ukraine.”
Additional import duties at the rate of 10% subject to prepared foods; products, fats and oils of animal and vegetable origin; alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages; tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes; vinegar; live animals (commodity groups 1-24 on UKTVED). Under the 5% charge is subject to all other goods except for “vital” to which the Parliament took the most energy, as well as some medications.
