Ukraine will continue to develop cooperation with the EU in space.
In the State Space Agency of Ukraine held a meeting on the official closure of the technical assistance of the EU Twinning Ukraine in the space sphere. Its goal was to harmonize Ukrainian legislation to EU norms and standards and involvement of Ukraine to EU space programs, in particular in the areas of satellite navigation (EGNOS / Galileo) and remote sensing (GMES-Copernicus).
According to first Deputy Head of Ukraine DKA, Head of the Twinning project on the Ukrainian side of Alexander Golub: “To ensure a smooth introduction of the European experience in the space industry in the State Space Agency of Ukraine launched a technical assistance project EU Twinning. This project has covered important issues such as the spread of the European satellite navigation system EGNOS to Ukraine, the intensification of the processes of Ukraine’s accession to the European program of remote sensing Copernicus, the participation of Ukrainian enterprises and institutions in the EU Programme for Research and Innovation “Horizon 2020″, and Ukraine’s integration with the European Space Agency. ”
Instead, the project manager of the EU Member Manuel Mulero Valenzuela said that the project started in September 2013 and lasted 26 months. The project was implemented by the National Institute for Aerospace Technology of Spain (INTA) and the National Space Agency of Ukraine. The project budget was 1.5 mln. Euro and financed by the European Union. During this time conducted 52 mission, which was attended by 647 experts.
Today, satellite navigation activities and activities in the field of remote sensing – two areas that are currently the fastest growing in the European Union. Therefore, Ukraine and also has certain achievements and ambitions in these areas. Today one of the main priorities of Ukraine’s space industry is in orbit deployment group space Earth observation systems, the creation of an effective ground system using Earth observation data and data systems coordinate-time and navigation support on the basis of international standards, to form a common information space.
